For the first time, an international research team has developed concrete, evidence based stretching recommendations for practical use. The team was led by Prof. Dr. Dr. Jan Wilke of the University of Bayreuth. Their recommendations, published in the Journal of Sport and Health Science, aim to settle long-standing controversies and dispel common myths surrounding stretching.

At this year’s University of Bayreuth summer festival, UNIKAT, the University Foundation presented research prizes for the first time. A total of €30,000 was awarded to support outstanding research projects. The three prizes recognise innovative scientific ideas that transcend established disciplinary boundaries.

The University of Bayreuth is once again one of the best universities in the world in 2026: in the current QS World University Rankings 2026, it is ranked 448th out of a total of 1,501 listed and 8,467 evaluated universities. This marks an improvement over the previous year and confirms its status as a research-intensive and internationally networked institution.
