Racism shapes key areas of society – from housing and work to health and education. Nevertheless, scientific engagement with this topic has so far been insufficiently anchored in German institutions. This is shown in a new report by the Knowledge Network for Racism Research (WinRa), with the participation of Prof. Dr. Stefan Ouma from the University of Bayreuth.

Computer simulations and artificial intelligence often make significant errors when predicting the properties of new, high-performance materials. This is the finding of an international study led by the University of Bayreuth. In their research, published in the renowned journal Advanced Materials, the scientists provide tools to address this issue.

A new chapter is beginning for the Iwalewahaus, Bayreuth’s centre for modern and contemporary African art and culture. With a newly appointed dual leadership team and a clear vision for the future, the institution is positioning itself as a national flagship project –international in its reach and firmly rooted in the region. Dr. Xenia Ressos has been entrusted with the management since May 2025, while Prof. Dr. Natasha A. Kelly took over as artistic director in October.

The university will be closed for the winter break from 24 December 2025 to 6 January 2026. The Central Library and its branch libraries will also be closed during this period. There will be no lectures from 22 December 2025, and teaching will resume on 7 January 2026.
