Supporting research

At the University of Bayreuth, you can expect all the pre-conditions to be in place for your research. Thanks to our excellent research performance, we obtain a considerable share of our budget from third-party funding, in addition to our state budget. The University of Bayreuth offers support in applying for funding and in financing research stays through several of its offices. 

Research Support Office

Outstanding research requires optimal conditions. At the Research Support Office, we advise and support researchers from all disciplines at the University of Bayreuth in applying for and conducting their externally funded research projects. We accompany you from the initial project idea to the submission of the final application and support you after approval in close cooperation with the other administrative departments.

  • Supporting researchers in submitting applications for individual and collaborative projects from all regional, national and international funding bodies
  • Advice and support with applications for major research instrumentation
  • Information on current funding calls (newsletter)
  • Orientation and guidance on funding programmes, incl. Internal Funding Pool
  • Support in project implementation (liaising between researchers and the central administrative departments; reporting; supervision of special funding programmes)
  • Coordination of scientific awards and support for applications/nominations
  • Coordination of the research data management working group (FDM@UBT) and advice on RDM in the application process
  • First point of contact for research-related enquiries to the Vice President for Research and Junior Scholars

University of Bayreuth Centre of International Excellence “Alexander von Humboldt”

The University of Bayreuth Centre of International Excellence "Alexander von Humboldt" (Bayreuth Humboldt Centre for short) was established with Excellence Strategy funds. The aim of the Centre is to strengthen the internationality and excellence of research at the University across all disciplines, and to network actively with the best universities worldwide.

  • With its "Senior and Junior Fellowships" and "Short Term Grants" funding lines, the Bayreuth Humboldt Centre invites outstanding international guest researchers to Bayreuth for research stays.
  • In addition, generously endowed "Strategic Scientific Workshops" are organised in cooperation with researchers.
  • The Bayreuth Humboldt Centre advises all applicants and hosts, and provides its sponsored researchers with comprehensive support in planning and realising their research stays.

The Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation

The institute provides advice on innovation and knowledge transfer.

  • Support in establishing contacts with partners from industry, for example in developing a product to market maturity, or in exploring application options
  • Advice and support on funding opportunities for the development of innovative technology and cooperation with companies

International Office

The International Office supports researchers from all disciplines in initiating and carrying out international research projects.

  • Support in setting up and implementing a wide range of research formats such as cotutelle de thèse, international research training groups, and international research alliances and partnerships.
