FAQ teaching evaluation

Teaching evaluation serves to improve the quality of teaching and the further development of the teaching programme by providing feedback on students' impressions of the course to the teacher and discussing it with the students.

The goals and process of teaching evaluation are defined in the Quality Assurance and Evaluation Statutes (QSE Statutes) of the University of Bayreuth.

The selection of courses to be evaluated is based on the weight or significance for the respective study objective; it is made by the Dean of Studies according to transparent criteria. (see QSE Statutes, §15 [1]). In addition, all teaching staff can have their courses evaluated on a voluntary basis. To do so, contact the Faculty Adviser for Teaching and Learning of your faculty.

At least every two years, an internal teaching evaluation is carried out for the courses offered by the faculties and the central institutions under the responsibility of the Dean of Studies or the head of the central institution. The surveys within the framework of the teaching evaluation should be completed in good time before the end of the course in order to be able to inform the students about the results for each course (QSE Statutes, § 15 [1]).

The process of teaching evaluation is organised on a faculty-specific basis. For example, the following points are regulated individually by the faculties: Recording of the courses to be evaluated, time of the survey, regular survey frequency or the form of the survey (paper questionnaires or online survey).
