University of Bayreuth, Press Release No. 139/2024 - 17 December 2024
University of Bayreuth researchers rank among the top in the 2024 WiWo ranking
For years, the University of Bayreuth has been one of the top universities in Germany in law and economics. Once again, it has achieved outstanding results in the Wirtschaftswoche (WiWo) business administration ranking, which evaluates the most research-strong business economists. The WiWo ranking assessed nearly 860 academic publications from around the world.
The Konjunkturforschungsstelle (KOF) at ETH Zurich evaluated professors achieving particularly high research performance in the German-speaking region for Wirtschaftswoche. The ranking is divided into categories, starting with “Leading Researchers,” which lists the 100 most research-strong economists from a pool of 3,723. The University of Bayreuth stands out here with two achievements: Prof. Dr. Ricarda Bouncken, Chair of Strategic Management and Organization, ranks 25th and is one of only four women in the top positions. Prof. Dr. Maximilian Röglinger, Chair of Information Systems and Value-Based Process Management, ranks 56th.
In the second category, “Rising Stars of Business Administration,” the research ranking highlights the 75 strongest researchers under 40 years of age from 413 economists in the DACH region. Here, Prof. Dr. Niklas Kühl, Chair of Information Systems and Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence, ranks 37th.
In evaluating "Lifetime Research Achievements", covering the 250 strongest economists, the University of Bayreuth is prominently represented by Ricarda Bouncken in 52nd place. This ranking examined 4,958 researchers.
“From rising stars to pioneers to lifetime achievements – the outstanding placements of the University of Bayreuth’s economists showcase the strength of our faculty. We attract the best, which also benefits students and economic practice. Our teaching reflects cutting-edge research, while cooperation with the business sector integrates impactful, practical insights,” says Prof. Dr. Claas Christian Germelmann, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Economics at the University of Bayreuth.
About the survey:
The ranking includes publications from 2020 to 2024. Lifetime achievements account for all published articles, while the young economists’ ranking considers publications by researchers under 40 as of the cut-off date. The rankings cover publications by business economists working and publishing in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (DACH). Not all journals have the same reputation, so the ranking applies a weighting system based on the reputation of approximately 860 business journals, reflecting the journal ranking of the Association of University Professors of Business Administration.
