Food and Health Sciences, Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)

In the coming years, food production will have to increase significantly to be able to adequately feed our steadily-growing world population. At the same time, extreme weather events caused by climate change are becoming more frequent, and endangering agricultural yields. Meanwhile, first-world diseases such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases are spreading rapidly. Still, large parts of the world's population are affected by an undersupply of calories or the lack of micronutrients such as vitamins and minerals ("hidden hunger"). All these challenges are highly complex and closely interwoven. The sustainable production and distribution of healthy food will play a central role in facing them. Current studies reveal diverse connections between nutrition and health. The future-oriented bachelor's degree programme "Food & Health Sciences" focuses precisely on these socially relevant topics.

Tatiana Dutzel
The interdisciplinary structure of the bachelor's programme is so impressive. You get a comprehensive insight into the most diverse areas related to health and food, and gradually develop a feeling for the complex processes and strategies that underlie them. In addition, you are shown again and again how important new solutions, new ways of thinking, but also our limitations are when tackling today's global challenges. For me, this is exactly the right programme choice.
