The Bayreuth Children's University is anything but boring! A thief was caught using cocoa powder, dangerous electric eels were seen up close, inflation was explained with chocolate and gummy bears, there was a treasure hunt using artificial intelligence, and much more...
What am I allowed to do on the internet? How do the police catch criminals? How do I increase my pocket money with lemons? Sports are murder, right? As a child, you have many questions. Fortunately, there are adults who know the answers – for example, our professors at the University of Bayreuth. They are available to answer questions from visitors at the Children's University, which takes place annually in cooperation with the City of Bayreuth.
All students in grades 2 to 6 from Bayreuth and the surrounding area are welcome! Admission is free, and registration is not required.
The dates for the Children's University 2025 have been set. It will take place on Wednesday, 2 July, 9 July, 16 July, and 23 July 2025, from 5:15 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Audimax.
These are the children's lectures at the KinderUni 2025:
2 July 2025, 17.15 Uhr, Audimax – Prof. Dr. Heike Leutheuser
AI as Adventure: How AI Superpowers Save Lives
Did you know that AI (artificial intelligence) has special abilities that help us stay healthy? For example, it can detect when we're sick! But how does it do that? And how can cell phones monitor our heart and warn us when something's wrong? In this lecture, we'll discover AI's secret superpowers and how it supports medicine.

In this exciting talk, we'll explore the secret powers of light. We'll discover invisible light, see through walls, and make things visible that would otherwise remain hidden. And we'll find out how space helps keep us cool on hot days. Ready for a luminous adventure? Then come along!

Hey, you're cheating! The secrets of fair play
Board games are fun – unless your opponent isn't playing fairly. But what could be unfair about a dice game? And what if you play with a stake you've set in advance? Can it be set in such a way that you're always at a disadvantage? We'll find answers to these questions together.

How do you conjure up the perfect book?
When we read, we immerse ourselves in another world. But what ingredients make a book either boring – or so exciting that we don't want to put it down? Do you want to write a book yourself? It's actually not rocket science; there are recipes for magical stories.
