Awards for Good Teaching
With its "Prize for Good Teaching", the Bavarian State Ministry of Sciences and Arts honours the work of outstanding Bavarian university teachers every year. In addition, the prize sends the message that teaching is on an equal footing with research. The prize-winners are nominated by their home university and receive prize money of € 5,000 each. The student vote is decisive for the universities in making their nominations. The lecturers are distinguished by their outstanding commitment to teaching and to the interests of their students. They work with innovative teaching concepts that particularly support students in their learning and contribute to the understandable, exciting communication of complex teaching content. It is held at various universities in turn.

The University Prize for outstanding teaching was first presented in 2014 and has been awarded annually since then. The prize is awarded alternately to a professor and a member of staff, and is a distinction for particularly good teaching performance. The selection of the award winners is based on proposals from all faculties and is made by a higher committee consisting of one representative of each of the student councils, the Centre for Learning & Teaching in Higher Education (ZHL), and the Steering Committee and Vice President for Teaching & Learning.

The Bayreuth Teaching Prize for digitally supported teaching was awarded for the first time in 2017. With this new teaching award, the University Governing Board wishes to honour teachers with a special commitment to teaching and learning processes using digital resources. All lecturers can apply for this award, either independently or upon request, by presenting their teaching and learning scenarios using digital resources. The selection of an award winner is made by a six-member committee with representatives from the University Governing Board, the Centre for Learning & Teaching in Higher Education, the Student Parliament, and the Gender Equality Service Centre.
